Minijature egipatskih fantastičnih sfingi
The temple cats are not sacred. The temple cats are staff, and they have the run of the place.
Every river temple keeps them, has kept them for as long as anyone has kept records, and no priest has ever been able to explain the arrangement to a visitor without sounding defensive. They are not fed by the temple; they are fed by the city, which considers a hungry temple cat a civic embarrassment. They attend rituals. They sit where they like. Once a year the high priest formally asks them to remain for another term, and the request is read aloud, seriously, to an audience of cats.
Nobody has ever recorded one leaving.
Small models that live entirely on the paint — crisp markings, warm sunlit stone under them, and gold kept to the collars so the animals stay animals.
