The story
A table mimic eats standing up, which is considered vulgar.
It is also the most commercially successful shape in the trade, because a table is the one piece of furniture in an inn that everybody touches and nobody looks at. It carries plates. It takes elbows. It gets wiped down twice a day by staff who have never once wondered about it. Mimic elders regard it as the purest expression of the craft — total visibility, total invisibility, no cleverness required at all.
The trade has a saying about it, which translates roughly as: be the thing nobody thanks.
Honest tavern furniture with a secret — convincing scrubbed wood, spilled drink and ring marks on the top, and the whole joke kept underneath.
