The story

Tiefling Sorcerer Miniature

Tiefling sorcerers get asked where it came from, and most of them have no idea.

The assumption is heredity and the assumption is frequently wrong — sorcery turns up in tiefling families no more often than anywhere else, and a tiefling sorcerer is usually somebody dealing with two entirely separate inheritances that everyone else insists on treating as one. It is a tedious thing to have to explain and almost nobody bothers any more.

The ones who lean into it do very well socially and slightly worse at the actual magic.

Two sources of colour fighting — pick the skin first, then make the arcane glow a deliberately different temperature so it does not blend into it.
